Tim Wood

Tim Wood, the proprietor of Echelon, has been involved in cycling for the last 19 years, competing in time trials and road racing since the age of 12. He has ridden on the velodrome in Manchester, dabbled in cyclo-cross and has also toured the Alps and Pyrenees of France. As a relatively late developer in terms of competition racing, the highlights of Tim's career (thus far!) have been in 2002 when he gained his Elite road license and came fifth in the in the National 25 and was also in the top 11 in the National 10 and 50. In 2003 he competed in the Tour of Norway and the Tour of Munster (in Ireland) and also won a team medal in the National 10.

For almost as long as Tim has been riding, the technical side of cycling has been of great interest to him. On completion of his university degree, he undertook a one year City and Guilds course on Cycle Mechanics. This also covered sports science, material science and basic engineering. Following this he started work as a mechanic in a cycle shop and practiced his newly acquired skills, such as wheel building. He later moved to a new post as assistant manager and was in charge of the workshop. Here he became familiar with a number of different types of hydraulic brakes and mountain bike suspension units and forks. He has also built wheels for National champions, Olympians and World-Class mountain bikers.

Tim's cycling interests extend to training, diet and rider position. Experiencing King Cycle Tests and working with sports scientists has enabled him to help other riders with their training schedules and to become more efficient cyclists.

All of this has led to the creation of Echelon. As Proprietor and Manager of the shop, Tim aims to give you, his customer, a unique and valuable personal team in order to satisfy your every cycling need.

Whether you are a high level athlete aiming to slice seconds off your PB or just starting out and need to know the basics, please get in touch either by email, through this website or by a personal visit to the shop. Either way you will be assured of friendly and helpful advice from Tim.
